Five Level 1 Hospitality and Catering students from North Shropshire College’s (NSC) training restaurant, Scholars, recently took part in the Welsh International Culinary Championships at Coleg Llandrillo in Rhos-on-Sea. The students were entered into the salon skills competitions of potato piping and classical vegetable cuts.
For the potato piping, the students had five minutes to pipe out three variates of classical potato dishes including; duchess, marquis and potato plait, four of each to be provided. For the vegetable cuts, the students were required to demonstrate six classical French cuts of bruniose, jardiniere, paysanne, julienne, chateau potato and cocotte potato, displaying their professional knife skills.
Lucy Jones won the bronze award for her potato piping, Lucy commented, ‘it was a really good experience, I was really surprised to win, it is really nice to be recognised for my skills.’ Students Curtis Metcalf, Toni Mooney and Danny Percy also each achieved certificates of merit in the potato piping skills competition.
