South Staffordshire College are delighted to announce that they have become members of the 157 Group. The forward thinking membership organisation represents 30 leading UK colleges across the UK working in collaboration with others to transform the UK economy through the delivery of high-quality technical and professional education.
Membership to the group is awarded to those who share in the group’s ethos and take a leading role in shaping the future skills needs of the UK. Members have strong partnerships with employers, leading to the delivery of high quality professional skills and provide transformative leadership in the education sector. Collectively, members are thought leaders in the areas of policy implementation and sector funding and provide learning environments which support enhanced technical and professional skills required by industry leaders.
Being selected for 157 Group Membership is testament to the hard work and commitment that South Staffordshire College continue to show to transforming the education in the digital age, and naturally, they are thrilled to have been recognised in such a positive way. Speaking about becoming members of the Group, South Staffordshire College’s Chief Executive Principal Graham Morley says “We are delighted to be joining the 157 Group. We are looking forward to making a significant contribution to the work of this group for the benefit of those we serve.

In line with the 157 Group’s vision, South Staffordshire College are driving many new initiatives, including the expansion of Traineeships and Apprenticeships. With a long and proven track record of working with over 1000 businesses in a range of sectors, the College works with over 1400 Apprentices each year. This year, this provision will be expanded further, with the opening of the College’s new AgriSTEM Academy. Based on the 180 hectare rural Rodbaston estate, the Academy will transform the scale and quality of industry relevant training in the Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) and Agricultural Engineering & Technology (AgriTech) sectors. New apprenticeships in Landbased Technology, Agricultural Engineering, Renewable Energies, Motor Vehicle Maintenance and many more, will provide learners with access to an even wider range of opportunities.
At the forefront of education in the digital age, the College has also undergone a digital transformation, providing all staff and students with access to the latest chromebase technology and Google Apps for Education facilities.
Director of Strategy and Infrastructure Jamie Smith says ‘In the past year South Staffordshire College has transformed its infrastructure to enable our communities to secure the skills they need with industry leading employers. Learners are able to access provision on any device and location through the application of cloud technology such as Google Apps for Education and remodelled LRC spaces. These developments have already secured external recognition through two award nominations and now becoming a member of 157 Group of sector leading organisations is the latest tribute to the outstanding talents of our staff and the communities we serve’.
