South Staffordshire College learners enjoying action packed scheduleA key event in the College calendar, this year’s National Apprenticeship Week kicked-off on Monday 14th March 2016. This year promises to be the best yet for learners at South Staffordshire College as the event also coincides with the College’s annual Progression Week.

The perfect opportunity for learners who are evaluating their next steps to find out everything they need to know about the huge range of options available to them after completing their studies, this year, activities will include a range of engaging apprenticeships workshops, careers events and much more.

As well as having the College’s industry expert staff on hand to offer advice and guidance, these careers events also offer students the chance to talk with a huge variety of employers, to find out more about establishing a career in the industry they love. Employers attending the events, which are taking place at all of the College’s campuses in Tamworth, Lichfield, Cannock and Rodbaston throughout the week include Staffordshire University, Staffordshire Police Force, The Army, G F Tomlinson and many more.

For those who want tips on how to find a job, write a fantastic CV or excel in a job interview, there is also the opportunity to get one-to-one support from experienced professionals too. Mock Interviews will be held for those who are on the verge of applying for their first job and tailored feedback will be provided to each ‘candidate’, helping pave the way for their experiences in the ‘real world’.

As you’d expect during National Apprenticeships Week, Apprenticeships are high on the agenda and the College’s dedicated apprenticeships experts are on hand to deliver talks that will focus on the benefits of becoming an apprentice; from earning a salary while learning to gaining practical, industry relevant training as well as a qualification.

An increasingly popular route that not only provides people with the qualifications they need to pursue their chosen career, but gives them the chance to learn from experienced industry professionals, South Staffordshire College have seen a surge in Apprenticeships applications over the past 12 month. The college are now working alongside more businesses than ever to deliver opportunities in sectors including Engineering, Motor Vehicle, Hairdressing, Landbased Technology and many more.

Aside from their existing students, the College are also committed to supporting the next generation of learners and as such, will also be conducting a series of school visits during National Apprenticeships Week to offer advice to those who are currently working towards their GCSEs.

John Renshaw, Head of Apprenticeships and Employer Engagement at the College says “We’re really looking forward to a fantastic week and are delighted to be able to offer such a broad range of activities, both to our students and to those who are at school in our local communities. Our role as a College is not only to help learners achieve their qualifications, but also to prepare them for a fulfilling future and it’s events like these that go a long way towards achieving that.”
