Simon Thomas, an Engineering Lecturer at North Shropshire College (NSC) and David Mayfield, a Learning Support Assistant, have completed the ‘Bridgnorth Walk’. Simon and David both work at North Shropshire College’s (NSC’s) Aspire Centre, which is based in Burford, Tenbury Wells.
Simon and David were raising funds for ‘Make a Wish’ UK, a charity that ‘grants magical wishes to enrich the lives of children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions’. They chose ‘Make a Wish’ to support their colleague Sarah Probert, who has been fundraising for the charity since one of her children was seriously ill six years ago, so far the pair have raised £200 for the charity.
The walk regularly raises over £100k for good causes and charities and has been running since 1967. Simon and David took on the full 22 mile walk and completed it in 4 hours and 48 minutes, with a pace of 3.8mph. Simon Thomas commented, “A week before I didn’t think I could do it because of shin splints, but I recovered sufficiently to take part. It’s all about showing students that all things are possible”.
