As a critical part of the Business Studies Level 3 course, Shrewsbury College students are required to organise an event.

This year’s students decided that they would combine their interest in helping the community with achieving their college qualification and invited over sixty Age UK members from three local day centres for an activity- packed lunch and afternoon of bingo and quizzes in the College’s Origins Restaurant.  The students were required to raise the funding for the event and created a business plan which included generating sponsorship from the staff of the College.

“It was touching to see how focused the students were on creating a fabulous afternoon for the guests and to see their caring attitude towards our local residents.  This type of event highlights to the students that they can combine the world of business with empathy – and thoroughly enjoy the whole experience,” comments Phil Castle, Student Events Ambassador.

Age UK operates ten day centres in Shrewsbury which are run to provide a day out in company for socially isolated older people.
