Teenagers across the city have gained a head start in their careers, after completing a new course being offered by City of Wolverhampton College.
The youngsters, who are all aged between 16 and 18, have just completed a Get Ahead Programme with the college’s Community, Employability and Traineeship team, to help them decide on their next steps.
Over the last four weeks the students have gained the skills they need to succeed at interview and impress future employers. They achieved qualifications in Active Citizenship, team work and presentation skills and worked on their CVs.
Co-ordinator Lorna Prosser said: “We have been delighted with the success of this course, with many of the students taking part moving on to apprenticeships and other courses at the college.”
Seventeen-year-old Leigh Davies, who is moving on to a full time childcare qualification at college, said: “The course was really good – the tutors were so supportive and they really helped boost my confidence.”
The Get Ahead programme aims to give 16-18 year olds not in education, employment or training, the opportunity to try new activities and to make steps towards a positive future.
