Salon owner tops up her beauty therapy skills at TCAT

Sukhvinder Kaur has returned to Telford College of Arts and Technology to top up her beauty therapy qualifications

Successful businesswoman Sukhvinder Kaur has returned to Telford College of Arts and Technology to top up her beauty therapy qualifications.

Sukhvinder, from Priorslee, was last at TCAT in the year 2000 for a Diploma in Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Body Massage and Indian Head Massage, but returned to broaden her qualifications on a level two NVQ programme.

She said: “I worked with adults with learning disabilities for 18 years, and I then decided to go self-employed.

“For the past 16 years I have worked as a salon owner and salon manager, providing hands-on therapy in reiki, body massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, manicures and pedicures.

“My current role is to be well organised in the operation and financial management of the Diva Beauty Salon at the Park Inn by Radisson hotel in Telford, and to make sure that all staff are meeting our standards.”

She is also responsible for the salon’s policies, procedures and image – and ensuring a high quality of service and technical expertise.

The NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy provides students with a recognised qualification in the beauty industry, as well as the skills, knowledge and professionalism to make them work-ready.

Sukhvinder said: “I started my educational path at TCAT in the year 2000, and returned after enjoying and implementing the educational programme into my workplace.

“The courses have helped me to implement good standard and practice in the workplace, to develop further in the subject with confidence, and to follow market trends.

“They have also inspired me to progress and grow in a challenging industry, which is continuously changing with the times.

“TCAT’s courses provide an ideal taster for anyone considering a career within the beauty industry.”

TCAT tutors Vanessa Bentley and Charlotte Denby said: “Sukhvinder came to us with qualifications in complementary therapies, but wanted to broaden her horizons and abilities with a beauty therapy qualification.

“She was an enthusiastic student with good aims and career aspirations for what she wanted to do with her skills and business, now and in the future.

“Her professionalism, inquisitive mind and passion for the subject was demonstrated throughout the course, and this led to her completion a few weeks earlier than the course was due to end.”
