Winning an AA Rosette in June of this year was impressive work by the catering team at Shrewsbury College, but to now add ‘Gold Accreditation’ and ‘Centre of Excellence’ status to the list of awards is outstanding.

“We are delighted!” says Dan Gibbons, Chef Lecturer at the College. “We are very aware that the ‘People First’ Gold Awards are only awarded to Colleges and providers that achieve the best in their class and which demonstrate a progressive and sustainable commitment to matching learners’ skills with employers’ needs.  This is something we are very focused on, so this recognition is very encouraging indeed.”

The Gold standard colleges and providers are also seen as taking an above-average and pro-active approach to the continued professional development of their staff, showcasing effective and collaborative industry working partnerships.

Dan continues: “The ‘Centre of Excellence’ badge is given to colleges which excel in the delivery of specific skills, which in turn increase employers’ confidence that their needs will be met in specialist areas.  It recognises clear development pathways and direct links to industry.”

Andy Doyle, Membership Operations Manager from People First presenting the awards said: “I’m delighted to be here today to present the Gold accreditation and Centre of Excellence for Food & Beverage Service award to Shrewsbury College for their hospitality provision and the AA Hospitality ‘Higher Commended’ College Rosette for Origins restaurant.”

Michel Nijsten of the Albright Hussey Hotel adds: “An impressive new benchmark has been set; Origins Restaurant’s AA Rosette Award and the People First Gold are fantastic achievements by Dan and his dedicated catering team at Shrewsbury College.  They are recognised as genuinely producing high level, motivated students who are ready for employment in Shropshire and beyond, raising the bar of our prestigious catering industry.”
