Students scoop award for lifesaving skills

Students from the newly formed Shrewsbury Colleges Group have received an award from the West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) for the ‘Appreciation in supporting West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust’s participation in the 2016 Guinness World Record CPR Attempt’ last week.

Presenting the award was Mr Barry McKinnon, Area Manager for Shropshire WMAS on behalf of Dr Anthony C Marsh QAM SBStJ DSci (Hon) MBA MA FASI, Chief Executive officer for WMAS.

CPR Training Group

Over 140 students from Shrewsbury College and Shrewsbury Sixth Form College learnt the potential lifesaving skills of CPR and Defibrillation over the course of National ‘Restart a Heart Day’.

Cliff Medlicott, Community Response Manager from WMAS, delivering the training explained, “In case of cardiac arrest, it is essential that CPR is commenced as soon as possible. It is a very easy skill which can be learnt at any age. It is excellent to see the enthusiasm and positivity of the students from Shrewsbury College and Shrewsbury Sixth Form College who have volunteered to get involved in this training today.”
