Workers in Wolverhampton can pick up their lunchtime snack at a city centre bakery run by catering students.
The Academy bakery – at City of Wolverhampton College’s Metro One campus in Bilston Street – sells a wide range of sandwiches, cakes, cookies, bread and pastries produced by students studying for professional bakery qualifications.
Also available are salads and freshly-brewed coffee, as well as a meal deal of a baguette, wrap or salad, packet of crisps or a cake, and a cold drink for just £2.
As well as providing a service to the public, the bakery also gives students the opportunity to gain experience of working in a commercial environment to prepare them for their future careers in the industry.
Student Georgina Silvester, aged 16, who joined the college in September to study for a Level 2 diploma in professional bakery, said: “Working in the bakery is a good way of developing our customer service skills as well as finding out what it’s like to work in a busy city centre location with a fast turn-over of goods.”
The Academy bakery is open to the public from 10am to 2pm on weekdays during term time.
