Members of the public will have the opportunity to buy a range of unique handmade gifts as talented Art and Design students at Walsall College open their own pop up shop at the Old Square shopping centre in Walsall.

The store, L2, opens to the public on Thursday 8th December and will offer a variety of gifts for sale, including bags, t-shirts, signs, stockings and Christmas decorations, all made by students themselves. Students will also be offering a gift wrapping service.

Art and Design Tutor at Walsall College, Anita Zychniewicz, said: “Students are on the Level 2 course and have used the typography skills learnt this term to create the different products. As well as giving students the chance to showcase their creativity to the public, opening their own store is part of the work experience element of the course and will help them to develop their enterprise skills.

“The students will be pricing the products themselves, dressing the store and will also trained on how to use the till so they can learn more about setting up and running their own business.”

The college has worked in partnership with Direct Art Action, an organisation committed to creating exhibition spaces for artists in Walsall, on this project.
