An engineering student at City of Wolverhampton College has been named one of the best in the country after winning a medal in a national skills competition.

Andrew Parsons, aged 35, who is studying for a Level 3 diploma in fabrication and welding a the college’s Paget Road campus, picked up a bronze award in the sheet metalwork category of the WorldSkills (correct) UK competition at the NEC, in Birmingham, in November.

Neil Davis, curriculum manager for engineering at the college, said: “We are delighted that Andrew did so well against competitors from all over the country and his success shows how combining skills and practical experience can reap real results and lead to successful careers in the industry.”

WorldSkills UK inspires young people and adults to be ambitious in their pursuit of skills to the highest level.  The national competitions are designed to test competitors’ skills in a range of critical elements that demonstrate excellence in their chosen trade.
