STUDENTS PEDAL WAY TO BETTER HEALTH

Students at City of Wolverhampton will be pedalling their way to better health on a smoothie-making bike next week.

The stationary exercise bike – fitted with special blenders that whip up delicious fruit smoothies as the rider pedals – is one of the attractions at a Healthy Body Healthy Mind fair at the college’s Paget Road, Wellington Road and Metro One campuses from January 9 to 11.

Students will also be able to tuck into free fruit snacks donated by Sainsbury’s and Asda, get advice on healthy eating, exercise and giving up smoking, and pick up information from a range of local support organisations including Healthy Minds, the Alzheimer’s Society, Terrence Higgins Trust, and The Haven.

Andrea Dill-Russell, director of student services at the college, said: “Eating healthily and doing regular exercise is key to good physical and mental health, which in turn impacts on the ability to learn, and the fair is an opportunity for our students to find out how to eat well and get active on a budget as well as the support provided by a range of groups in the local area.”
