Degree Apprenticeship Puts Management Skills on Course for Success

Walsall College has formed a new partnership with The University of Wolverhampton to launch a new Degree Apprenticeship.

In conjunction with local employers and Further Education colleges, the university has introduced a Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship.  The four-year course will cover all aspects of business, including management, marketing, human resources, finance and operations management as well as equipping apprentices with skills such as entrepreneurship, digital literacy, collaborative working and communication skills.

This new apprenticeship will be offered as a progression route for Level 2 and 3 apprentices looking to gain a university level qualification and professional status through the Chartered Management Institute.

The apprenticeship will be mainly work based and students’ learning will be supported with lectures, distance learning materials as well as in-house company mentors and training support.

James Norris, Assistant Principal for Commercial Development at Walsall College said: “This new degree level apprenticeship is the latest addition to our portfolio of university level qualifications and it provides an ideal stepping stone for our current Level 2 and 3 business apprentices looking to progress further.

“It will enable students to develop the higher level skills that will broaden their career prospects, however, it is also a viable programme for employers who want to upskill existing staff and support them in gaining a broader overview of their business.

“The course will increase students’ knowledge and skills across different disciplines of business, in preparation for management positions, which will in turn support business growth and innovation in our region.”

Walsall College is one of the biggest providers of apprenticeships for 16-18 year olds in the West Midlands, supporting over 500 employers and with success rates that have been significantly higher than the national average for the last three years.
